Alongside strategic thinking, good and purposeful design decisions and thinking can help improve any sites’ bounce rate. It is important to take into account bounce rates early in the web design process in order to create effective and successful sites. These 5 design practices will set up any website for success.

  • Create Visual Hierarchy
  • The most important features and information should stand out and be the most-eye catching. This practice creates a visually pleasing and user-friendly site that will lead to high conversions rates.
  • White creating visual hierarchy, it is best to keep in mind the flow and movement in which the user will view and navigate through the site naturally and placing the most important information there. Hierarchy can be made with font sizes, layout and contrast with colors. For example, buttons and call to actions can stand out by being a color that contrasts against the background.
  • Simple Navigation With Exciting Experience The navigation of the site gives the user a sneak peek of all the information they will find on the site, so it should be easy to use and be understood. A great navigation should be simple and memorable because this is one of the first elements that we see.
  • Responsive and Mobile Friendly Design In today’s digital world, everyone has a mobile device in all shapes and sizes. A site that is responsive to different sizes keeps the site successful no matter how it is viewed. Most sites are viewed on a mobile screen, rather than a desktop. Making this practice more of a requirement in order to keep bounce rates low and conversions high.
  • Purposeful White Space
  • White space refers to the blank space areas between text and images throughout your site. It may not seem like it, but white space plays an important role during the web design process and the overall readability of the site.
  • Best practice is to avoid a cluttered and busy site and this can be easily done with strategically placed and used white space.
  • Consistent and Readable Typography Typography and font sizes are often forgotten when designing a website. While designing a site, it is best practice to limit the number of fonts on the site to 2-3 fonts. In addition, sans serif fonts are best for body copy because they work better for readability while serifs work best larger, such as in headers. Remember to keep your use of fonts consistent. For example, all headers with the same header tag should be the same font and size.
