3 Lessons From My Virtual Internship

When I began the process of applying for my internship at Tribu, I never could have imagined that by the time I began work the entire world would be put under lockdown. Having a virtual internship has been a true learning experience, requiring me to not only familiarize myself with the day-to-day operations of a digital agency but also with the smaller aspects of working from home. Here are my three biggest takeaways from my time at Tribu so far:

Stay in touch with your team

Because an agency environment is so collaborative, it can be difficult to work without your team members around you to ask questions and bounce ideas off each other. Using platforms like Slack, Zoom, and Flow to stay connected with your coworkers helps to create a “virtual office,” ensuring that you remain on the same page no matter what.

Keep yourself on schedule

Working at home can be difficult because your environment offers so many unique distractions. Developing a morning routine and setting up a quiet workspace have been crucial in increasing my focus and productivity, even while at home with my family!

See things through the partner’s eyes

Keeping the big picture in mind is more important than ever when working alone. Frequently visiting partners’ websites and social media pages helps me visualize their brand and perspective to ensure that their voice shines through when I create content for them.

My time at Tribu has been incredibly special, and has allowed me to grow as a marketer more than I ever imagined. I’ve become familiar with new platforms and tools, picked up new skills, and honed my existing talents in order to truly achieve success for our partners. Although working virtually was a unique challenge, I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything!
