When I started my internship at Tribu, I was excited to learn about sales and the art of closing deals. Little did I know that my journey at this digital marketing agency would take a completely unexpected turn. Cut to a few months later, I was offered the opportunity to come back and become a digital marketing intern. I decided to take the leap and explore this new field. Looking back, I can confidently say that this has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. Here's a look at my experience transitioning from sales to digital marketing at Tribu.
When I first started at Tribu over the summer, I was a sales intern with Students + Startups. I learned a lot during my time in sales, including how to communicate effectively with potential partners to sell our service. Working with the team through the entire sales process, from discovery to signing on new partners, allowed me to see the value in skills like active listening and communication.
Getting to watch the sales team was an incredibly valuable experience, as it completely reshaped my perspective on what sales are. I quickly learned it's not just about making a sale; it's about creating a long-term partnership. Also, listening to the client's needs and concerns was crucial in building trust and establishing a relationship that will last.
I remember walking into the Tribu office on my first day as a sales intern and thinking, "Wait, what even is a digital marketer?" Little did I know, I would soon find my passion in that exact role.
As a digital marketing intern at Tribu, I worked closely with the marketing team to develop and execute digital marketing campaigns for clients. This includes a range of tactics, such as SEO, pay-per-click advertising, social media marketing, and content marketing.
I didn’t know it at the time, but my experience as a sales intern prepared me well for my transition to digital marketing. Some of those skills include:
Overall, transitioning from sales to digital marketing was a significant shift, but one that I wouldn't trade for anything. I've learned so much and had a lot of fun along the way. With the skills from both positions, I feel even more prepared to take on whatever challenge comes next. If you're considering a career in digital marketing, my advice is to jump in with an open mind and a willingness to learn and enjoy the ride. And hey, you might already have more skills than you think you do!
